2007 Presidential Address

Greetings MCPA Members!

It is a privilege and honor to serve as President of the Michigan College Personnel Association for the 2007-2008 year. I look forward to doing all that I can to move this organization forward by working collectively with the Leadership Team and the general membership as a whole. Our leadership team is committed to providing meaningful professional development opportunities for our colleagues and we will continue to foster a network of student affairs professionals across the state! At our retreat this past June, the Leadership Team developed some very concise and meaningful goals for the next year. After much discussion and consideration, the following goals emerged from our discussion:

  1. Increasing the amount of professional resources on the MCPA web-site
  2. Increasing recruitment and retention of members in MCPA
  3. Developing a mentoring program for new professionals and mid-level managers

These goals will be discussed in more detail at the Annual Conference, and updates will be given periodically to the membership on the progress of each goal. If you share an interest in these goals, please contact me to get more involved. Our organization has always prided itself on its grassroots nature, and would be pleased to have your support in pursuing our vision through your time, talents, resources or feedback.

I am very excited about our upcoming Annual Conference, at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort on October 21-23, 2007. The theme for this year’s conference is “All Students Matter: Creating Inclusiveness Against All Odds.” We have over 20 breakout sessions scheduled that will be facilitated by student affairs professionals from across the state. Along with developing ourselves professionally, there will also be a number of opportunities to socialize and network with colleagues and friends from other institutions. Additionally, Soaring Eagle Casino provides a relaxing ambiance amidst a rich cultural backdrop.

Our future plans also include a professional development institute in February and the Diversity Summit in June. I look forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas or feedback on things that you feel MCPA can improve upon and become a more meaningful organization for its constituents. Together we can make MCPA the premier organization that it is well positioned to be.

All the best,

Lloyd C. Crews, Ph.D.
MCPA President
