The Cultural Diversity Award
The purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize outstanding efforts addressing cultural diversity issues in higher education. This award can be presented to an individual, campus/community program, or service who or which has demonstrated creativity, innovation, and success in making a significant contribution and impact in the area of multicultural understanding and appreciation. Self-nomination is accepted.

Award presented at the annual Diversity Summit.

The John Zaugra Outstanding Research/Publication Awards
The purpose of these awards is to recognize MCPA members who engage in active scholarly work. The Research Award recipient would be an individual who has conducted research during the last two years that contributes to the profession; the Publication Award recipient would be an individual who has published within the past year or who publishes on a regular basis. Self-nomination is accepted. Nomination for the Research Award should include a description of research activities in the last two years. Nominations for the Publication Award should include a copy or listing of the nominee's publication(s). John Zaugra was MCPA president in 1998-1999 and served as the editor of the Michigan Journal of College Student Development from 1997 to 2003.

The Outstanding Service Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize MCPA members who have performed outstanding service to the organization and the profession. Nominations should include a description of services for and contributions to MCPA. Self-nomination is accepted.

The Les Carlin Professional Development Grant
The purpose of this award is to encourage a new professional to take advantage of the fellowship of a conference and the benefits of MCPA membership. Candidates for the award should be individuals currently employed in a student development area of higher education who have not previously attended an MCPA conference. The award covers the registration fee for next year's conference and a one-year MCPA membership. Any current MCPA member may sponsor a candidate for the award. It will be the responsibility of the sponsor to provide transportation and arrange accommodations for the award winner to attend the award ceremony. The sponsor will also be invited to introduce the winner at the award ceremony. The award will be given to the nominee with the greatest potential for active involvement and future leadership in the association. Nominations should include a description of the nominee's qualifications for this award. Les Carlin was MCPA president in 1954-1955 and he served as a counselor at Central Michigan University for 33 years before he retired as professor emeritus in 1981.

Excellence in Leadership Award
This award is given to a MCPA member that has demonstrated continuous and sustained leadership to the profession of student affairs.  Recipients have held leadership positions at state, regional and national levels in professional associations and have been recognized as leaders in both scholarly and practitioner roles.
