Invitation from the Conference Co-Chairs

We invite you to join us for the MCPA 2007 Annual Conference at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant. This year’s conference theme, All Students Matter: Creating Inclusiveness Against All Odds, asks professionals from around the state to focus on all students that we serve. This theme was created by the conference team to not only focus on the traditional areas of diversity, but also to include non-traditional students, institutions that serve students through multiple campuses and sites, and students pursuing their education through distance learning. Your participation along with the presenters and guest speakers’ contributions will assist in bringing forward ideas and solutions for our profession.

The pre-conference events begin on Sunday afternoon with the Graduate Student Case Study Competition, and a workshop featuring the Native-American experience. The case study competition will allow graduate students to demonstrate their knowledge in the student affairs field, while the workshop will allow all professionals to experience a great American culture. The workshop showcases the beautiful and informative Ziibiwing Center. It is our hope that you will take advantage of the special programs leading into the Annual Conference.

The conference will kickoff Sunday night with our opening speaker Dr. Jack Kay, Acting Chancellor and Provost and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, at the University of Michigan-Flint. His research focuses on political debates, hate groups, and language of oppression. His address promises to enlighten us on the true meaning of inclusiveness. Throughout the conference, you will have many opportunities to connect with colleagues from around the state, as well as attend informative program sessions. You will not want to miss our closing speaker on Tuesday, Dr. Diana Ariza, Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies at Albion College. We are sure she will leave us with thought provoking words to send us back to our campuses rejuvenated.

Please join us for a fantastic conference that is sure to give you the tools to serve all students on your campus. In addition, the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort’s atmosphere offers you relaxation and fun immersed in the Native-American culture. Remember to register before October 1 for the early-bird special which is a $20 savings. See you in Mount Pleasant!
