Call for 2007 MCPA Award Nominations
MCPA recognizes the outstanding work of its members in student and academic affairs by conferring awards in scholarly work and service to MCPA and the profession. Award presentations will take place at the annual conference luncheon on Monday, October 22, 2007. Members are encouraged to submit nominations of deserving individuals for each category. Nominations will be accepted until the nominations deadline, Monday, October 1, 2007.The award categories are:
The John Zaugra Outstanding Research Award and Publication Award
The purpose of these awards is to recognize MCPA Members who engage in active scholarly work. The Research Award recipient would be an individual who has conducted research during the last two years that contributes to the profession; the Publication Award recipient would be an individual who has published within the past year or who publishes on a regular basis. Self-nomination is accepted. Nomination for the Research Award should include a description of research activities in the last two years. Nominations for the Publication Award should include a copy or listing of the nominee’s publication(s). John Zaugra was MCPA president 1998-1999 and served as the editor of the Michigan Journal of College Development from 1997 to 2003.
The Outstanding Service Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize MCPA members who have performed outstanding service to the organization and the profession. Nominations should include a description of services for and contributions to MCPA. Self-nomination is accepted.
The Les Carlin Professional Development Grant
The purpose of this award is to encourage a new professional to take advantage of the fellowship of a conference and the benefits of MCPA membership. Candidates for the award should be individuals currently employed in a student development area of higher education who have not previously attended an MCPA conference. The award covers the registration fee for next year’s conference and a one-year MCPA membership. Any current MCPA member may sponsor a candidate for the award. It will be the responsibility of the sponsor to provide transportation and arrange accommodations for the award winner to attend the award ceremony. The award will be given to the nominee with the greatest potential for active involvement and future leadership in the association. Nominations should include a description of the nominee’s qualifications for this award. Les Carlin was MCPA president in 1954-1955 and he served as a counselor at Central Michigan University for 33 years before he retired as professor emeritus in 1981.
Nomination Process
Colleagues are highly encouraged to submit nominations of deserving individuals for each category. Self-nominations are also accepted for the Outstanding Service and John Zaugra Outstanding Research/Publication Awards. Please include the following information:
- Name of nominee
- Nominee’s professional title or graduate program affiliation (must be current MCPA member for the John Zaugra Outstanding Research/Publication and Service Awards)
- Nominee’s work and/or home address, phone number and email address
- Nominator’s name, title, and/or graduate program affiliation (must be a current MCPA member)
- Nominator’s work address, phone number and e-mail address
- A description of the nominee’s qualifications for the award and other criteria, as required
Nominations must be submitted electronically by Monday, October 1, 2007 to the MCPA Awards Chair, Randy J. Dillard, rdillard@umd.umich.edu.
